PLR Digital Products: What They Are & How to Sell Them in 2026
You’ve decided you want to sell digital products.
Excellent.
Then someone casually mentions PLR.
And suddenly you’re Googling at 11 pm.
What does PLR mean? Can I actually sell this? Am I supposed to change it first? What on earth is the difference between PLR and MRR?
And perhaps most importantly…
Why is somebody offering me 47 million templates for the price of a coffee? 😂
Welcome to the slightly chaotic world of PLR digital products.
The basic idea is genuinely simple. PLR gives you a way to start with an existing digital product instead of building every workbook, planner, guide and template from a blank page.
Done well, it’s a massive shortcut.
Done badly, congratulations, you now own 83GB of digital clutter and still have absolutely no idea what to sell.
So let’s talk about how this actually works, what to look for, and how to use it to build products people might genuinely want to buy.

What Are PLR Digital Products?
PLR stands for Private Label Rights.
When you buy a PLR digital product, you’re buying the product together with a license that gives you certain rights to use it.
Depending on that license, you may be able to edit the product, change the design, add your branding, customize the content and sell your finished version.
The important words there are depending on the license.
PLR isn’t one universal set of rules carved into a stone tablet somewhere. Different sellers offer different permissions and different restrictions, and two listings with PLR!!! written across them in enormous letters can mean completely different things.
So before you do anything with a PLR product, read the license that comes with it.
You need to understand what you’re allowed to change, where you’re allowed to sell it, whether your customers receive any resale rights, and how much customization is required before you slap your logo on it and call it a day.
Boring? Maybe.
Less boring than discovering six months later that you’ve been selling it incorrectly? Absolutely.

What Kinds Of PLR Digital Products Can You Buy?
Pretty much everything except somebody’s left kidney at this point.
You’ll commonly find PLR versions of:
- planners
- workbooks
- journals
- ebooks
- checklists
- guides
- business templates
- social media templates
- marketing resources
- spreadsheets
- trackers
- printables
- course materials
- coaching resources
- lead magnets
Which sounds fantastic, and it can be.
But the fact that something EXISTS with PLR rights doesn’t mean you should immediately sell it.
That’s where a lot of new digital sellers go wrong. They shop for products based on what’s available, instead of starting with:
What does my CUSTOMER actually want?
Very different question.
Why Sell PLR Instead Of Creating Digital Products From Scratch?
Because creating everything yourself takes time.
A LOT of it.
Let’s say you decide to create a 50-page workbook. Here’s your afternoon, and I’m using that word generously:
research the topic ↓ outline it ↓ write it ↓ design it ↓ proofread it ↓ create the cover ↓ make the mockups ↓ write the listing ↓ figure out the price ↓ and after all that, you still have to SELL the thing 😂
That’s fine if you adore product creation and have plenty of time.
But if your goal is to build a digital product BUSINESS containing multiple products? Starting every single one from zero becomes the exact thing preventing you from ever getting to the business part.
Good PLR moves your starting line.
Instead of staring at Untitled Design in Canva, you’ve got a foundation you can customize. And that leaves more time for research, positioning, marketing and selling.
You know. The bits that actually get customers involved.
The Giant PLR Bundle Problem
Okay. We need to talk about this.
Search for PLR products and it won’t take long before you encounter something like:
10,000 DIGITAL PRODUCTS!
Then: 100,000 PRODUCTS!
Then: 25 MILLION PRODUCTS!
Apparently we’re all preparing to open the Amazon of PDFs. 😂
The problem isn’t necessarily that large bundles exist. The problem is assuming MORE FILES = BETTER BUSINESS.
It doesn’t.
If you buy 40,000 products but only 12 are relevant to the customer you’re trying to reach, what exactly have you gained?
Mostly folders. Possibly anxiety. Definitely a longer Google Drive loading time.
Quantity is especially weak as a differentiator now, because producing digital content has become easier than ever. Everybody has the files. Almost nobody has the customer.
I’d rather see you own a smaller number of products you understand, can customize and can confidently position, than have an enormous library you’ve never properly looked through.
Because the number of files in your Google Drive isn’t a business metric.
Sales are.
What Makes A GOOD PLR Digital Product?
This is where I’d become picky.
PLR is supposed to SAVE you work. If you open something you’ve just bought and immediately realize you need to rewrite every page, redesign the entire thing and fact check half the content, we’ve rather defeated the purpose.
Start by asking:
Is the product actually useful?
Forget the resale rights for a second and imagine you were the end customer.
Would you buy it? Does it solve an identifiable problem? Does it help someone accomplish something? And would you feel vaguely embarrassed selling it?
That last question is surprisingly useful. 😂
Is it professionally designed?
You’re probably going to customize the design anyway, but you shouldn’t need to perform CPR on it first.
Look for a clean structure, readable layouts, and files you can realistically edit without wanting to throw your laptop out the window.
Can you identify the customer?
Workbook isn’t a market, planner isn’t a market, and ebook certainly isn’t a market.
Who wants it? Why?
For example:
Career Workbook. Okay. But:
Career Change Workbook for Women Returning to Work After a Career Break.
Now we’re getting somewhere.
The second one gives us a CUSTOMER, a PROBLEM and an ANGLE. That’s what makes products easier to position.
Can you make it different?
This matters, because PLR is generally non-exclusive. Other people may have access to the same starting product.
Your advantage comes from what you DO with it.
Which brings us nicely to the part everybody skips.
How Do You Customize PLR Products?
There are two ways people tend to approach this.
Person #1 changes the cover from beige to pink. “DONE!”
Person #2 rewrites all 74 pages, completely redesigns everything, and emerges from Canva three weeks later looking like they’ve been through battle.
We need somewhere in the middle.
Start with the buyer
Decide exactly who you’re selling to and what problem you’re helping them solve.
That decision alone can change your title, your cover, your examples, your imagery, your language, your bonuses, your product description, your mockups, your keywords and your entire positioning.
One decision, all of that.
Then customize the visual identity
Use your own colors and fonts. Create a stronger cover. Change graphics where appropriate. Make the finished product look like it belongs to YOUR brand.
(If your branding is currently three fonts fighting for custody of your Instagram account, sort that out first. It makes everything after it faster.)
Then improve the content where it makes sense
Maybe you add a checklist. Maybe you remove irrelevant pages, include better examples, add a quick start page or a bonus resource, or combine several related PLR products into one stronger offer.
The goal isn’t to change things purely so you can say LOOK! I CHANGED IT!
The goal is a finished product that’s more useful and more relevant to the customer you’ve chosen.
Want To Start Selling But Not Sure What Comes Next?
Knowing what PLR is is one thing.
Actually turning an idea into a product, setting up your business and getting the thing LAUNCHED? Slightly different story. 😂
That’s why I created my FREE Digital Product Business Launch Checklist.
It walks you through the steps from figuring out what you’re selling, through setting up, building your audience and getting ready to launch, without trying to remember 57 things at once.

PLR vs MRR: What’s The Difference?
This is where the alphabet soup begins.
PLR usually focuses on giving the buyer rights to customize or rebrand content, according to the license.
MRR, Master Resell Rights, generally focuses on the ability to resell a product and may include the ability to pass specified resale rights on to your customers.
Then there are standard Resell Rights, which may let you sell a product without allowing your customer to continue reselling it.
Simple enough?
Almost.
Because once again, the actual license matters more than the acronym. Two sellers can use similar terminology while offering different permissions.
So don’t build your business around something you saw on a pretty infographic.
Read the terms.

How To Turn ONE PLR Product Into A Proper Offer
THIS is where PLR gets interesting.
Imagine you start with a career workbook.
You could customize it and sell Career Clarity Workbook, $17.
Perfectly reasonable.
But you could also combine it with an interview workbook and a job search planner and create The Career Change Toolkit, $47.
Then add a salary negotiation resource, a personal brand workbook and a 90 day new job planner, and now you’ve got The Complete Career Reinvention Bundle, $79.
Now we’re not randomly throwing PDFs into a shop. We’re building a PRODUCT LINE.
One customer, several related problems, multiple offers, different price points.
That’s the kind of thinking I want you doing with PLR.
Because people don’t buy files. They buy solutions.
What PLR Products Should You Sell?
I’d start with the buyer rather than the product format.
If you’re selling to coaches, you might look at client workbooks, coaching exercises, goal setting tools and session resources.
If you’re selling to freelancers or service providers, you could explore onboarding kits, business planners, client resources, pricing tools and lead generation systems.
If you’re selling directly to consumers, you might look at budgeting resources, career tools, wellness planners, productivity systems or relationship workbooks.
Notice what we’re NOT doing?
“This Canva template is cute. I’ll build a business around it.”
Cute is lovely. But cute doesn’t tell us who wants the product or why they’re going to hand over money for it.
Pretty gets attention. Useful gets sales.

Can You Sell PLR Products On Etsy?
Be careful here.
A PLR license tells you what the creator or rights holder permits you to do with that product.
A selling platform has its OWN rules about what it allows on the platform.
Those aren’t the same thing.
So having a license that permits you to resell or customize something does not automatically mean every marketplace will accept the resulting product.
If Etsy is part of your plan, check Etsy’s CURRENT Creativity Standards and seller policies before listing anything.
And if you’re using PLR as a starting point, don’t assume changing two fonts suddenly makes something your original design. Build something genuinely differentiated, and make sure what you’re selling complies with the platform you’re using.
TikTok isn’t paying your account fees if you get this wrong. 😏
Where Can You Sell PLR Digital Products?
Your options aren’t limited to one marketplace.
Depending on your product, your license and the platform’s current rules, you might sell through your own website, an ecommerce store, a digital product platform, a marketplace that permits the specific product you’re selling, a membership, a bundle, an email funnel, or the coaching or service business you already run.
Personally, I LOVE the idea of eventually having your own website and email list involved.
Why?
Because building your entire business on someone else’s platform means that platform gets an awful lot of control over your customer relationship.
Marketplaces can absolutely help with discovery.
But your email list- That’s an audience you can keep talking to.
Where Can You Buy PLR Digital Products?
Once you know you want to use PLR, you’ve got another decision to make.
Where do you actually get it?
PLR Marketplaces
These give you lots of products from different creators, and can be useful if you’re hunting for something specific.
The trade off is consistency. Design, content quality, licensing and usefulness can vary considerably from one product to the next.
So don’t buy something purely because the listing has PLR!!! written across it in enormous letters. Look at what you’re actually getting.
PLR Memberships
A membership can make sense if you regularly need new products or content. You pay monthly or annually and get access to an existing library, new releases, or both.
Useful…Absolutely.
Unless you’re paying every month to accumulate products you never use. Then you’ve basically invented Netflix for unopened Canva templates.
Independent PLR Creators
Buying directly from an independent creator can mean a smaller, more curated collection.
And smaller isn’t automatically worse. If the products are relevant to your market and the quality is stronger, I’d take that over rummaging through 80,000 random files any day.
Mega PLR Bundles
You already know how I feel about these. 😂
Cheap. Enormous. Tempting. Potentially useful. Also potentially the digital equivalent of buying the entire contents of someone’s garage because you needed a screwdriver.
Ask yourself whether you want the PRODUCTS, or whether you’re being seduced by the NUMBER.
Premium Curated PLR Libraries
This is the option for people who care less about owning the largest number of files, and more about having products they can actually work with.
Look for good design, useful content, editable files, clear licensing, and products that make sense for real customers.
Which brings me rather conveniently to…
Looking For PLR Digital Products You Can Actually DO Something With?
This is exactly why I created Sellable by Design.
I kept seeing people who wanted to sell digital products but didn’t particularly want to spend weeks creating every new idea from scratch.
At the same time, the PLR world seemed determined to solve that problem by giving everyone… MORE.
More templates. More files. Bigger bundles. Millions of products. Another zero on the end.
And I kept coming back to one question:
But is any of it actually SELLABLE?
That’s what matters to me.
The Digital Products Vault gives you professionally created, customizable digital products and templates with resale rights, covering multiple categories, and giving you a much faster starting point for building your own offers.
Not because owning templates is the goal. It isn’t.
The goal is to take a strong starting product, make it relevant to YOUR customer, and get the bloody thing out into the world.

How Much Should You Charge For PLR Products?
There isn’t a universal PLR price chart.
And PLEASE don’t price purely by page count.
Nobody wakes up thinking, “What I desperately need today is 63 pages.” 😂
They care about what those pages help them accomplish.
Think about the problem you’re solving, who the customer is, how specialized the product is, how comprehensive it is, how professionally it’s presented, what comparable solutions cost, whether you’ve added bonuses, and whether it’s sold individually or as part of a bundle.
A generic checklist and a comprehensive business system aren’t the same offer simply because both started life as editable files.
Price the finished PRODUCT.
Not the fact that you started with PLR.

Can You Really Make Money Selling PLR Products?
You can build a business that uses PLR products.
But PLR doesn’t create demand.
That’s an important distinction.
PLR can solve part of your production problem. It can save you from researching, writing and designing every single product from zero.
What it doesn’t automatically solve is: What should I sell? Who wants it? Why should they buy mine? Where do I find them?
That’s still the business.
And I’d rather tell you that now than convince you that buying a Canva link automatically turns you into a CEO.
The people who use PLR intelligently don’t just collect products. They choose a customer, pick problems worth solving, customize strategically, build connected offers, and then they MARKET them.
Yes.
Unfortunately your products still won’t sell themselves while you sit on the sofa eating chips. 😂
Before You Buy Another PLR Bundle…
Ask yourself this:
Can I actually see myself SELLING this?
Not downloading it, not saving it, and not adding it to a folder called DIGITAL PRODUCT STUFF FINAL FINAL 2 where it will sit undisturbed until the heat death of the universe.
Selling it.
Can you picture the customer? Do you understand the problem? Can you see how you’d position it? Could you make it noticeably more relevant or useful? Can you imagine it fitting into a bigger product line?
If yes?
Brilliant. That’s potentially useful PLR.
If your entire reason for buying is “BUT IT’S 50,000 PRODUCTS FOR $3”, perhaps remove your finger from the Buy Now button. 😂
You don’t need the biggest collection.
You need a starting point you can actually turn into something.
And that’s what good PLR should be.
If you want the order to do all this in, grab the free [Digital Product Business Launch Checklist] and start at Phase 1.
If you want products you can actually sell, have a look inside the Vault.

PLR Digital Products FAQs
What does PLR stand for?
PLR stands for Private Label Rights. It describes a licensing arrangement that can give you permission to edit, customize, rebrand and use digital content according to the specific terms supplied by the rights holder.
What are PLR digital products?
PLR digital products are digital resources sold with Private Label Rights. Depending on the license, these can include editable workbooks, planners, ebooks, templates, guides, business resources and other products that buyers can customize or repurpose.
Can I resell PLR products?
Many PLR licenses allow some form of resale, but the exact permissions and restrictions vary. Always read the license supplied with the specific product before selling it.
Do I need to customize PLR before selling it?
That depends on the license and where you intend to sell it. From a business perspective, customization is usually a smart move, because it helps you create a more distinctive product for a specific customer instead of offering the same generic version other licensees may have.
Is PLR the same as MRR?
No. Private Label Rights and Master Resell Rights generally provide different permissions, particularly around customization and passing resale rights to customers. The exact terms can vary, so check the license attached to the product rather than relying on the acronym alone.
Can I sell PLR on Etsy?
Don’t assume a PLR license automatically makes a product eligible for Etsy. Your license governs your rights to the source product, while Etsy separately determines what may be sold on its marketplace. Check Etsy’s current Creativity Standards and seller policies before listing PLR derived products.
What are the best PLR products to sell?
There’s no universally best PLR product. Stronger opportunities tend to begin with a clear customer and problem rather than a particular format. Look for useful products that can be customized, differentiated and positioned for an identifiable buyer.
Where can I buy PLR digital products?
PLR is available through marketplaces, memberships, independent creators and curated PLR libraries. Sellable by Design’s Digital Products Vault is designed for digital sellers who want professionally created, customizable products without starting every new product from scratch.
